IVDD surgery at age 8.5 – recovered and retired from breeding
Nash is a multiple specialty winning, multiple group winning dog who was campaigned and ranked among the top 5 Cardigans for both years he spent out showing with his friend Dixie Rae Sick. It was great fun to watch his success, but eventually it proved to be too much to go without our special boy and he came home permanently!
Nash was only used a handful of times at stud before unfortunately going down in the back with IVDD and requiring surgery. He is now neutered with a full-time job of keeping our couch warm, and we are grateful to still have our Best Boy around for company and ambassadorship. We co-own a handsome son, and now own a beautiful grandson, to hopefully move on with breeding carefully. We have added spinal screening to all of our breeding dogs – while there is currently no way to guarantee that a dog won’t have issues, as a breeder I have dedicated myself to learning as much as I can about this disease in hopes of helping future generations avoid it. If you have questions about IVDD in the breed, or IVDD vs Degenerative Myelopathy (DM), feel free to contact me.
Nash is an amazing breed ambassador with a sweet, biddable, typically pushy cardigan temperament. He took to herding very easily and really enjoyed bossing those sheepies around. At age 11 he is now trying Barn Hunt and immediately took to that as well! My do-everything boy never lets me down.
